The 3D printing revolution and the Dental sector

November 30th, 2016 from 9.00 to 13.00

Hotel Leopold in Brussels, 35 Rue du Luxembourg

The EFDD Group of the European Parliament is organizing the conference “THE 3D PRINTING REVOLUTION AND THE DENTAL SECTOR:  OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES AND FUTURE APPLICATIONS” on Wednesday November 30th from 9.30 to 13.00, at the Hotel Leopold in Brussels (Belgium), with the participation of the S&D Group and the patronage of AIO, representatives from the European Commission, the Council of the European Dentists (CED), the Italian Dental Association (AIO), the Federation of the European Dental Industry (FIDE) and speakers from the main 3D printing/Additive Manufacturing companies.

Additive manufacturing and the Dental Sector

The medical and dental sectors represent around 13.1% usage of Additive Manufacturing (Wohlers, Report 2015, p.21) and are particularly driven by mass customisation and personalisation. AM offers the possibility to have a simplified production chain obtaining fully dense and porous structures that allow better fixation of implants: tens of thousands of 3DP-fabricated metal implants are in fact produced every year.
Invisalignâ dental braces but also crowns are probably the most well-known 3D-printed products. Braces are produced indirectly: thus, first the moulds are 3D-printed and then the braces are manufactured using these moulds. The main driver to use 3D-printing is its capability for mass customisation.

Several millions of moulds are printed every year and a similar approach is used for producing dental crowns, an application started years ago with the production of dental restorations such as veneers, inlays, crowns and bridges using dental CAD-CAM systems

The reducing cost of processing power will ensure that these developments will continue thanks also to the introduction of a new range of digital intra-oral scanners. With regard to the manufacture of prostheses this is currently dominated by subtractive machining technology but it is inevitable that the additive processing routes of layered fabrication will start to have an impact.

Registration is free but seats are limited and pre-registration is required

Additive Manufacturing European Forum: 9th November 2016

Reminder:

Dear AM Stakeholder,

“Additive Manufacturing European Forum“
Albert Borschette Congress Center in Brussels
9th November (9.00-18.00h).

The AM European Forum 2016 was born from two strategic H2020 Coordinated Support Actions: “AM-Motion: A strategic approach to increasing Europe’s value proposition for Additive Manufacturing technologies and capabilities” and “FoFAM: Industrial and Regional Valorization of FoF AM projects”, and counts with the endorsement of the AM Platform. The event will be held with inclusion of the 18th AM-Platform meeting.

The event will bring together policy makers, industry leaders, small to medium-sized enterprises, as well as universities, research and technology centres and other key stakeholders. The debate on the economic, social and technical challenges urging to be solved can accelerate the AM market uptake in the digitalisation era.

Please find the (tentative) agenda here Attendance is limited to 250 people and filling up rapidly already!

Moreover, the next day:

Standardization practical workshop for projects with CEN/CENELEC

In the framework of CEN/TC 438 ‘Additive Manufacturing’ programme of activities and in collaboration with FoFAM project (Horizon2020), CEN and CENELEC would like to invite you to the workshop ‘Standardization in Additive Manufacturing’ at CEN and CENELEC Management Centre, on 10 November 2016, in Brussels. Agenda attached.
This workshop aims at strengthening the link between European research programs and standardization in Additive Manufacturing. The goal is to provide general information about European standardization and benefits standards can bring, to give an insight on standardization activities in the field of AM and provide examples and guidance about how to concretely link between research and standardization activities.

Dear members of AM-Platform,

we would like to invite you to our 1st official public RepAIR workshop at Euromold 2014 in Frankfurt a.M. On the 28th of November we will present an overview of current results of all work packages.

The RepAIR project follows an holistic approach to support the entire supply chain by integrating Additive Manufacturing as a new option for the repair of aircraft parts. The workshop will be structured along a storyline from part lifetime prediction and failure estimation, decision support for MRO, the actual AM technologies to overarching topics like certification. Please find attached the complete programme of the workshop. As a core element of the RepAIR approach, you are kindly invited to explore a first version of our high batch repair solution at the booth of SLM Solution. The RepAIR team will be represented during the whole Euromold fair at the DMRC booth in hall 11, stand C90.

We are looking forward to meet you in Frankfurt and to receive your feedback on our intermediary outcomes and plans for the second project phase! Please do not hesitate to contact us in case of any question or remark.
